한국 전통악기 양금의 새로운 가능성을 끊임없이 모색하는 윤은화는 연주자이자 제작자, 작곡가, 교육자로서 한국 양금계의 패러다임을 근본적으로 바꿔놓은 혁신적인 예술가이다.

중앙대학교에서 음악학 박사 학위를 취득한 그녀는 한양대학교, 이화여자대학교, 숙명여자대학교, 단국대학교, 명지대학교 등 국내 주요 대학에서 학생들을 가르치며 후학 양성에 힘쓰고 있다. 자신의 이름을 내걸고 개량한 양금을 직접 제작하여 특허를 획득했으며, 이를 통해 많은 제자릃 양성하고 있다. 또한 한국 내 유일한 전자 양금을 도입하여 루핑기법과 다양한 현대적 연주 기법을 통해 전통음악과 현대음악의 조화를 추구하며, 이러한 혁신적 시도로 국내외에서 인정받는 세계적인 양금 연주자로 자리매김했다.

전통과 현대, 동서양의 색다른 조화를 선사하는 그녀의 음악은 단순한 장르적 융합을 넘어서서 양금이라는 악기 자체가 지닌 무한한 가능성을 탐구하는 여정이다. 세계양금협회 이사이자 한국양금협회 회장으로 활동중이기도 한 윤은화는 양금의 세게적 위상을 높이며, 전통악기가 현대 음악계에서 가질 수 있는 새로운 역할과 의미를 제시한다.

Yun Eun Hwa is an innovative artist who has fundamentally transformed the paradigm of the Korean yanggeum field by continuously exploring new possibilities for the instrument. As a performer, instrument maker, composer, and educator, she holds a Ph.D. in Musicology from Chung-Ang University and has dedicated herself to nurturing the next generation, teaching at leading institutions such as Hanyang University, Ewha Womans University, Sookmyung Women’s University, Dankook University, and Myongji University.

She developed and patented her own redesigned Yanggeum under her name, personally crafting these instruments and training numerous students with them. She also pioneered the introduction of the only electronic Yanggeum in Korea, using looping techniques and a wide range of contemporary performance methods to pursue a harmony between traditional and modern music. Through these groundbreaking efforts, she has established herself as a world-renowned Yanggeum artist, recognized both in Korea and abroad.

Her music, presenting a distinctive harmony of tradition and modernity, East and West, goes beyond mere genre fusion. It is a journey to explore the infinite potential of the Yanggeum itself. As a board member of the World Yanggeum Association and president of the Korean Yanggeum Association, Yun Eun Hwa continues to elevate the global standing of the instrument while presenting new roles and meanings that traditional instruments can assume within the contemporary music world.
